4 Important Travel Apps

As I finalize my plans for my first big 2023 solo adventure to beautiful NORWAY, I want to share the apps that I found helpful in planning for this trip.   Each of these can be found in your Google or Apple play store.  AND they are FREE!

#1       The Weather Channel App

This app is so important especially when you travel with carry on ONLY.  It is always important to bring the right clothes with you when you travel.  This app helps you plan effectively.

If you are visiting a number of cities in a particular region, this app allows you to save each city as a favorite so that you can monitor the weather as it gets closer to your departure.

The first city I will be visiting in Norway is Oslo.  I will then travel to Bergen.  My last Norwegian city for this adventure will be the northern most city of Kirkenes.  As of today, the weather in each of these cities is:  Oslo – 21 degrees F; Bergen – 34 degrees F; and Kirkenes – 17 degrees F.  I can also view the 10-day weather forecast for each of these cities.

I will be packing lots of winter gear for this adventure and using my compression bags with the hope that I can get everything in my carry on suitcase and under the seat bag.  Stay tuned!

#2       Visit a City app

I found this app several years ago and love to use it when planning my trips.

On this app, you can enter the city you plan to visit.  The app will provide a list of things to do with pricing for appropriate tours.  You can also book tours on this app.  The app will also list hotels with reviews.  If you are simply looking for a list of sights in the area, this app provides that as well.  In addition, the app provides a one-to-three-day itinerary for each destination.  If you are interested in day trips from your destination, nearby options are also listed.

The Visit a City app includes worldwide destinations.  I’ve used this app for vacations within the USA and Europe.

#3       Language Translation apps

The first time I used a language translation app was in Italy.  It came in handy – especially when ordering food.  I used a Spanish translation app in Costa Rica.  That came in handy when I locked myself on the back balcony of the beautiful Air BNB – see my Costa Rica blog for a good laugh!

To prepare for my trip to Norway, I’ve downloaded a Norwegian language translation app.  This is a new language for me.  Besides the Viking series on Netflix, I really have not heard the Norwegian language.  According to this app, the Norwegian translation for the word “thank you” is “takk skal du ha.”  On this particular app, you can also hear the translation.

I am looking forward to using this app in Norway.  I am sure it will come in handy as I order food or look for a bathroom.

#4       Basic Travel apps

There are four different apps in this category that you may or may not use on your trip.  These include airline apps, hotel apps, car rental apps, and cruise line apps.

For airline and cruise line apps, you can obtain your boarding passes without printing these items.  That is an amazing feature that saves time and less hassle trying to keep up with one more item.  With the airline apps, you are also the first to know if there are any changes to your flight.

Some of the hotel apps allow you to check into your hotel which is also a nice convenience.

On this Norway adventure, I will be traveling with Delta.  My app is ready and I’m saying a prayer that there will be no delays or cancellations!  I will be on my own in Oslo and Bergen but then will board the Hurtigruten cruise line for a 12-day adventure along the Norwegian coastline.  My Hurtigruten app is also ready.  In addition to prayers to avoid delays and cancellations, I am also praying for good weather and calm seas.  Crossing the Arctic circle in February may be challenging although I am guaranteed by the cruise line to see the Northern lights!

I love traveling – but for me, the fun begins with planning for the trip.  I am busy reading travel books about Norway and watching every YouTube video on what to expect in this region.  I am also grateful for the technology that makes travel a little easier.

What apps do you use when planning your trips?  Let me know in the comments below if you’ve downloaded one of the apps mentioned above.  Where are you going in 2023?  I’d love to hear all about your adventures.  Don’t forget to take a look at my Travel Accessories Page. The drop down boxes for this page include Essentials, Electronics, Hiking, Winter, and Summer gear.  I will be trying out my winter gear before adding it to the Winter page.  But, if you are traveling in the warmer months in 2023, you may find some good treasures on my travel page.  God bless and Happy Travels!
